Texas Property Tax: What You Need to Know About Rendering Tangible Personal Property
Under Texas Property Tax Code Section 22.01, businesses are required to render (or report) all tangible personal property used in the production of income that they own or manage. This includes property you control in a fiduciary capacity as of January 1 each year.
What is a rendition?
A rendition is a formal document submitted to the local appraisal district that outlines the taxable personal property your business owns. It provides a detailed account of assets that are subject to property tax. The information included in the rendition helps the appraisal district determine the fair market value of your business property.
Key information included in a rendition
- Business name and location
- Description of assets
- Acquisition dates and costs
- Estimated value of property
Why do you need to render?
The appraisal district uses the data in your rendition to assess the value of your business property for annual property tax calculations. Based on this value, your business will be required to pay property taxes to each relevant taxing unit in your area.
Key dates to remember
- January 1: The date your property is considered taxable.
- Rendition filing deadline: April 15. Check your local appraisal district for specific dates.
